Sophomore Studio Project - 2022
DESIGN BRIEF:
Build a fully functional product that solves a problem.
TOOLS:
SolidWorks, 3D printing, Arduino, laser cutting, Blender 3D, Adobe creative suite
PROJECT SUMMARY:
The KICKET is foot pedal operated by the commercial kitchen's staff to control their display system while their hands are occupied and creates streamlined communication between restaurant staff and their customers.
Concept & Research

For this project, I created a kitchen display control device designed to streamline digital orders and an accompanying app that displays wait times.

Hand renderings

Control scheme

Exploded view
Prototyping & Construction

Gluing laser cut wood pieces to create backboard

Arduino in the Kicket, used for controlling the prototype kitchen menu

Assembling wires with 3D printed parts

Wires & springs implemented into final model
Interactive Kitchen Display

Interactive kitchen display made in Adobe XD to be controlled by the Kicket to demonstrate functionality

The input from the Kicket translates through the Arduino as keypad inputs that feed into Adobe XD to control the kitchen display

Kitchen display prototyping
Final Functional Model

Final product with interactive app via Adobe XD

Trade show style final presentation with the Kicket controlling the kitchen menu and an NFC chip allowing guests to see the Penguin app on their own devices

Kicket implemented onto a kitchen table
In addition to building the Kicket, I also built an app and UI concept for a new mobile ordering app that would work with this new streamlined system.
