Personal Summer Project - 2023
DESIGN BRIEF:
Design and market a distinctive line of handmade clothing embodying my artistic vision through an original production process.
TOOLS:
Laser cutting, Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender 3D, Procreate
PROJECT SUMMARY:
I created Iron Sky Studios to channel my personal style and individuality through everyday clothing.
As a college freshman, I began by offering direct-to-garment products featuring my digital art. However, I realized the need for a more hands-on, personalized approach to creating garments that held personal significance for me and provided customers with meaningful products.

Earliest designs were printed direct to garment before I began creating them all by myself.

Developing my stencil & bleach process
To create a more profitable and hands on approach to designing apparel, I cut stencils and used objects like chains to bleach over, and then dye with new colors.
This allows me to turn designs with captivating silhouettes into impactful patterns on the shirts and provides a canvas for more color with dyes.
Creating stencils and layouts
I selected navy and lilac cotton to use for this project because of the unique colors they bleach into.
To maximize the bleach effect, I made the stencils as solid shapes with dynamic silhouettes. I explored various ideas and compositions before deciding to make the two shirts foils of each other with the blue representing violence and the lilac shirt representing harmony.
